MakeMyTrip — Creator Circle UGC program

MakeMyTrip

MakeMyTrip is a huge Indian platform for booking flights, hotels, and rail tickets. Facing increased market competition over the last decade, they sought to actively engage and incentivize users through social media. To accomplish this, they partnered with Galleri5 to launch a user-generated content (UGC) program focused exclusively on client-specific marketing campaigns, ensuring brand visibility and solid user engagement.

Problem Statement

MakeMyTrip had two vital priorities: ensuring UGC authentically amplified marketing campaigns rather than being random, and maintaining strict control over content quality. The solution was a webview app integrated directly into their iOS and Android applications. This setup empowered users to seamlessly enroll in campaigns and post content, while MakeMyTrip retained full administrative control over all live campaigns.

Process

As the solo designer leading this project from zero to one, I held a significant amount of creative agency. However, because time was incredibly tight, I strategically used Figma's Simple Design System Template as a rapid launchpad instead of building from scratch. I skipped wireframing because the ready-made components allowed me to work rapidly, giving the client an accurate look and feel within just one short week.

PRD & Document Summarisation

Project requirements and core domain knowledge were primarily dispensed through comprehensive product requirement documents and detailed client meetings. To ensure no data was missed, I recorded and meticulously transcribed every live meeting. I then uploaded these transcripts alongside the PRDs into NotebookLM to proactively find open points, uncover hidden edge cases, and map out flows that were not explicitly covered.

Reference Collection

The MakeMyTrip team was very clear about strictly remaining on-brand for this overall initiative. The only area where I was afforded a slight degree of aesthetic flexibility was the initial landing page. To capitalize on this, we meticulously analyzed several competing platforms to draw visual inspiration, focusing our research specifically on their creator program landing pages and their dedicated creator onboarding experiences.

Userflow & UI

I initiated the visual process by updating all the size, spacing, and colour tokens within the template to align with the client's established brand guidelines. Following this, the user flow and UI design phases happened concurrently because I was able to rapidly leverage the ready-made components. This simultaneous workflow was crucial for our strict time crunch, allowing immediate handoff to engineering upon final approval.

Conclusion

Over its first 6 months, the platform drove 1,200 total sign-ups, sustaining a powerful 90% creator retention rate. The engagement funnel was incredibly efficient, achieving a monthly average of 700+ total brief enrolments and 500+ content submissions. Ultimately, the high caliber of creators generated over 60M+ total views, which resulted in a massive AUD $890,000 (₹6 CR) distributed in creator earnings across the project. This was a rewarding project that taught me how to alter my flow as per requirements and distill documentation into actionable points.
